Well, if you were a smartphone user with less than two years you'd have to pay the full no-contract price.
So non-smartphone users are getting a rather good deal in comparison.

There's no official document on that AFAIK, this is a part of their HUP (Hardware Upgrade) subsidy terms.

However we can confirm that it works..

One of our staff members (Cyprian) got a 32GB iPhone 3GS this way for $399 while still keeping the same (non smartphone) phone plan that he had before, although they've made him add a dataplan package on top.

Thinking about it, there's one more reason to get it from Fido: FidoDollars. They're actually quite useful and I personally have something like $120 accumulated by now... That's a pretty neat cashback.

Good news, corporate plans are available!

Q: what is upgrade path for corporate iPhone account?
A: For standard biz accounts it's the same. For small medium or corporate accounts, it varies. Best to check w/ care or Rogers rep.

Hi John,

I don't think I missed the point... As the article states (fourth paragraph):

"Please also note that if you’ve already used yellowsn0w to unlock the iPhone 3G this program will not work for you at this stage (full explanation on why it won’t work is below)."

.followed by original release notes that state:

"1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy)."

So I think I gave the skinny on everything. Sorry if it was not clear enough.

so no contract-iphone is still locked to the carrier you got it from -- but you can use it with a pay-as-you-go card (as opposed to a 3 year contract for the discounted deal).

Hi NKO,

The IPSW file is the file that contains the firmware.

When redsn0w starts it asks you for your CURRENT firmware version.(the one that you use now -- it should be v3.0 after you upgrade to it).

Hi Nick,

Are you sure you got the right file? Different iPhone models (2G/3G/3GS) have completely different IPSW files, even though they're all v3.0. So maybe you just got the wrong one?
