I remember as a basketball columnist for the IDS my junior year I was in a small class second semester with Jared Jeffries the Final Four year. He showed up for the first two classes. People would ask me, "Is he leaving early to go pro? What do you think?" I told people I believed he would. He was, after all, inviting people to his draft party at class. He never attended class again. And promptly declared for the NBA after the national title game.

Re: Good, Bad and Ugly: Michigan

I didn't realize you guys were still on vacation. Still, 11,000 is poor, but hopefully when students return that will change.

Re: Good, Bad and Ugly: Michigan

Sad loss. But whatever. The most discouraging statistic to me is the 11,044 fans. During one camera shot I saw the balcony and it was vacant. I don't blame students and alumni for not wanting to see bad basketball. Just the idea of 6,000 empty seats for a Big Ten home opener is sickening. Tragic.

Re: So, about DeMarcus Cousins, Jeff Withey and the scholarship situation…

Some students and most fans forget, scholarships are not birth rights, nor are they promised for four years. Scholarships are one year renewable contracts. Scholarships are pulled all the time in lower tier sports and nobody hears about it (until you date some girl three years later who reminds you constantly how unfair her college coach was, and how the coach ruined her life. Not that I have experience). Sometimes you have to break hearts. It's worth breaking hearts for a 7 footer.

Re: Good, Bad and Ugly: Wake Forest

Gonzaga next. Eeek. Whatever the spread is, take the cover. Keep playin' hard Hoosiers. Go down kicking and screaming.
