The former is obviously a metaphor, i.e. the Liberal Party was taking shots at Dion. You'll note that Dion isn't actually struck by any bullets. There's no blood or violence. Even to a sixth grader, the "bullet" holes are obviously metaphorical for the disdain Dion was receiving from his own party. The advertisement is obviously satirical in nature. The latter shows someone actually being murdered with Harper's head pasted on top of Oswald's, someone in the final moments of their life. It is violent in nature, and while it's meant to be funny, it comes across as purely tasteless, even to the many Liberal supporters. Seeing as this photo contest was supposed to tie in with the Copenhagen summit, it doesn't even make sense. It's just tasteless garbage.

Here's a litmus test: How many were outraged at that Dion image? If it had truly been offensive, the media in our country would have been all over it in seconds. But it couldn't be intepreted as such at the time, and the fact that Kinsella is pulling it out of his filing cabinet months later to compare it to the Harper image is an indicator of that. It also really cheapens the supposed remorse the Liberals are showing. And yes, I know WK doesn't work for the Liberals anymore, but he's representative of the Liberal partisan.

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? Please stop using Mulroney. I don't support Mulroney. Or at least, stop using him as an example and then labeling me as a reformatory in the same post. You can't have it both ways, Terry.

2.Why would you even make this statement, Terry? In civil debate you cannot just claim you know more than your opponent and expect that to be the end of it. I'm an Albertan who is entitled to his opinion and his vote. If Albertans are sheep because they only vote for the PC party, but that the "reformatory-lite" Wildrose Alliance party will someday get elected... how are we sheep exactly? Basically you are saying Albertans are willing to vote for different political parties, but we're sheep because we have conservative values as a province and do not want to vote for a liberal or socialist party. What's wrong with you?

3. Terry, I'm a Canadian and not a separatist (yet). Albertans have beef with being the economic engine of Canada but being treated inferior to other, more vote rich provinces. This is something that Paul Martin and Ignatieff have both acknowledged - why can't you?

4. Are you saying NEP didn't hurt Alberta Terry?

We're getting bored of you, Terry...

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? "

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up for us Terry. Can you provide us with a link, like an official party statement saying they will do this?

Wait, you don't have one?

..So you are speculating then?

Also, what's a "project type situation?" And what does "cover off more canadians with necessities to purchase" mean and how does it tie in with home renovations, Terry? I'm not sure you know what you're talking about.

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? We are conservative by nature out here, so you'll have to excuse us if the provincial Liberal and NDP party do not represent our interests. However, I am actually a supporter of the Wildrose Alliance party. I'd much rather have them than the PC party in Alberta because I actually do agree with you here - they haven't been doing a very good job.

3) This is a pretty ignorant statement - it was the "East" that build the railways. When the railway was built Canada was not organized geographically as it is now, Terry. In fact, Alberta and Saskatchewan did not exist as provinces. Hell, in those days Ontario was "the west" when talking about Canada. Are you seriously saying western Canadians owe eastern Canada a lifetime of debt for the railway and as such we shouldn't complain when an eastern based party deliberately acts against our interests? Are you trying to discredit yourself (further) Terry?

4) This is a funny comment because in another post you said in a very mature manner: ""THEY ARE AT THEIR LOWEST IN ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THESE DAYS. I SUPPOSE YOU THINK HARPO DID THAT ALSO."

So are you now blaming Conservatives for Alberta's unemployment? I might say it has more to do with the global economy, since you have already shown anything good that happens is not a result of the Conservatives. But anything bad is?

Common, Terry, you're boring us.

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? Not really sure which Canadians this bill ignores Terry and how the Liberals would improve it to reach more. They definitely haven't said anything about it, so you are just speculating and assuming that God's gift to Canada, the Liberal Party, will have a better version of the bill.

Or maybe you just think the bill will instantly become better if it comes from the Liberals and not the Conservatives.

Gee whiz Terry are you sure you're not an apologist?

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? Calling westerners sheep because we have different political and cultural values than the east (and as such, refuse to vote for your so-called natural governing party of Canada)? This is why I can't take Iggy seriously when he says he wants to make amends with Alberta, because the party's base voter thinks this way abou the west. It's one thing to disagree with us Terry, but why do you insist on insulting us by labeling us sheep? Eastern Canadians don't gain anything by provoking the economic might of the western provinces, but the Liberal party gains votes from voters like you.

As for "whining," when the Federal government intervenes in provincial government affairs such as natural resources (NEP) and sends unemployment skyrocketing from 4% to 10% to help out Ontario... well, I'm sorry we're still "not over it." When Dion campaigns on "fixing Alberta's reputation" (actual quote said at the Calgary Stampede!) and the Green Shift (aka screwing over the west, particularly the oil sands) then you will have to excuse us if we're no on board with Toronto's agenda.

Thanks for demonstrating everything that's wrong with the Liberal party, Terry.

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? Many supporters of the current Conservative party despise Mulroney, myself included - he was no friend of the west, let me tell you. In fact, our PM distanced himself from Mulroney, something that you have criticized him for.

Which is it?

Oh, and Terry, if you think ADSCAM wasn't a big deal because no Liberal party MP suffered legal implications, you are a sheep and an apologist.

Re: Mike Duffy hints at summer election? The Liberal vote was absolutely annihilated and many of them went over to the NDP. To boot, I think a lot of Conservative voters stayed home - admittedly there was a strong perception among Edmonton-Strathcona residents (even some who would typically vote blue) that Rahim Jaffer was lazy and overall not the greatest representative.

I think Ryan will win because Iggy is far more popular than Dion was (which isn't saying much, but still). That alone should take some votes away from Duncan and the NDP. His priority should be getting conservative voters to the polls though. He's got the University of Alberta and Old Strathcona neighbourhoods in his riding though and those are admittedly very left leaning so he'll need every Conservative vote out there to counter them. He should also really push the coalition as an issue as well. Linda Duncan had the unenviable job of trying to sell the coalition to Albertans and she did an absolutely terrible job of it. The coalition would have seen Alberta's government representation reduced to one miserable seat and Duncan's rationale was that because the NDP (barely) finished second in the popular vote across Alberta, they were justified in seizing power. Let me tell you, that went over like a lead balloon in Edmonton-Strathcona, even to the moderate voters.

As for Ryan Hastman himself, I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, although when I went to the nomination vote his wife was on hand to say hello and she seemed quite friendly. I wish Ryan all the luck in making Linda's stay in Ottawa a very short one.

Re: Michael Ignatieff appeals for expat dollars

Very true.

Re: Michael Ignatieff appeals for expat dollars

Thanks for compiling this Gabby.

Sheds some light on Terry's blatant partisanship and hypocrisy.

Re: Where is Michael Ignatieff? If you believe their current policy is purely "Reform driven" then you must be willing to give Stephen Harper credit for legitimizing that policy in the East (he's won two elections now).

My problem is that it's tough to take Iggy seriously when he says he's ready to mend fences with the West but has someone on his payroll (Kinsella) using a term which is a dig at a pro-west party, and ultimately, many Western Canadians who voted for them. Does he really mean it or is he just getting his talking points in order for when he makes the mandatory campaign stop in Edmonton/Calgary?

Re: Where is Michael Ignatieff? Certainly it is a very funny pun. It highlights the Reform Party roots of the Conservative Party, certainly something that is very funny to Liberal supporters, although, not so much for Western Canadians who very much supported the party for its Pro-West agenda. In fact, as an Albertan, I have a hard time believing why being affiliated with a pro-west party is a bad thing at all, but I guess I'll leave that up to you Liberal supports who clearly know better.

What I don't understand is that Ignatieff, who you are a big fan of, Terry, has made it a "priority," of sorts, to mend fences with the West. He has admitted NEP was a bad idea, and that there is much work to be done for the Liberal Party to regain the trust of Western Canadians. As a huge supporter of Ignatieff, I assume you agree with this point...

...and yet, you, and so many other Liberal supporters (Kinsella, of note) continue to use this word "Reformatory" which is certainly interpreted as a shot across the bow of Western Canadians. Is this part of your strategy for winning back the trust of the West, Terry?
