What I don't understand is why her ex had HER dog to begin with. They must have been broken up for a while since she has a new fiance. I would not leave a half dead plant with someone I broke up with (or who broke up with me), let alone a defenseless little doggie. And a senior at that. The part that's I think is "worse" is that the animal never has the ability to report the abuse, where some children (if they aren't beat to DEATH), might get the chance to report their abuser.
