Rather than asking them to pay $1.99 or what have you, one might open up a small percentage of equity to users-turned-micro-investors.

Said users then become OWNERS, who are quite literally invested in the future of the service as a reward for their initial loyalty.

The entrepreneur receives additional investment and marketing in the form of users/owners who are motivated evangelize on the company's behalf.

The users get equity for the same amount of money they'd otherwise shell out just to use the product

Everyone wins?

It's a similar idea to the premise behind Loyal3, the startup that is trying to democratize investment in publicly traded companies by dividing normally expensive stock into micro-shares and having the company itself offset the actual brokerage costs. The goal being that an owner, say in coca-cola, even of an insignificant amount, would be that much less inclined to ever purchase Pepsi or a competing product.

That's how I see it anyway, maybe I'm completely off base.

Re: A Brief History of Mind-Bending Ideas About Black Holes

Would this change impact the Holographic Universe theory, which was founded in Black Hole theory and then extrapolated to include the whole of the universe? I could easily imagine a Posterous (or now RebelMouse) integration that would provide a standard format and UX for this sort of thing, while streamlining the process for the media

Just $.02 from someone who's been 'curating' on Twitter before it was such an it thing - even if I've only been curating for myself.

Re: Startup News: Let’s Launch the Summer with a New York Tech Meetup and Loads of New Features

June 5th is a Tuesday

Re: Twitter Acquires Social Summary Tool Summify

Summify is amazing.
