Great analysis - I feel these few months the people of Pakistan were utterly confused but the Army general had his plan all chalked out well.

Burns me to the bone watching him get elected yet again, but then due credit for him having the balls to play out all his moves and still come on top - he has proven yet again that the KURSI is the spinal cord of the existence for all Pakistani politicians

@Binary-zero, I too was lucky to have opened a Paypal acocunt when I was studying in the US in 2000 and with time have used it extensively to upgrade it to a full business account - honestly I find myself lucky considering the problems people face here in Pakistan, many times I wish to share this 'privalage' with people here but I suspect it would be 'ill-legal' as per State Bank of Pakistan. Heck this online bread earning method would mean some good influx in state revenue, and wonder why our government have left this issue on the sidelines?

I would also like to hear a discussion on how a group of paypal-gifted people can contribute and help the local IT industry in Pakistan. if the government cant help maybe a private project to boost the idea

@Kashif - I can see the problem with checks and I suspect you also have to take the hit for the $20 in clearance charges as well when requesting an international check clearance? - is that correct?

I AM TIRED AND DISGUSTED AT WHAT THESE PEOPLE WILL DO TO MY COUNTRY.

I wish I can confidently say, lets join hands and make things better, sadly I said that barely five months back - nothing happened then and the killers went scott free most probably setting a bad example for others to try and test the system again, and test they sure did, leaving 100 dead and over 200 injured.

Ali - I too uphold the image of my country very dear BUT sadly in the past few months I feel its time to stop pushing our problems under the carpet for the lame excuse of 'image of Pakistan' we are living in a web of lies and when the tough questions start being asked - TV Channels go off air and people start to get arrested or disappeared

Try asking these tough questions in Pakistan ;) and ... who knows what may happen. The only way to corner this raving lunatic is to disgrace him publicly where it really hurts. For Musharraf its the Western bosses which he continues to appease at our expense. Walking in the streets of London he hails himself as the angelic ruler who hopes to hold free and fair elections. Which we all know is just a lie, he refuses to accept that he has destroyed the constitution and the fact that we have a gutless judiciary - let alone being illegal

Unaiza - I had no intention of belittling you / shut out opposing views, if that were my goal I would have simply deleted it from the start, it is not in me to shut out opposing views, every argument as two sides and its important to listen to both - no one is perfect.

I have never edited YOUR comment but when I saw two comments back-to-back originating within a matter of minutes off each other, something struck out as suspicious and just a casual look revealed the matching IP - I would have let the comment go unedited but since someone from the same IP stooped to camouflage the comment I thought people should know. But in all honesty I might not like your arguments but that does not mean I block you out. Its a free world, and as long as its decent - we are all ears.

All said my commenting system does have a profanity check, and is hard at preventing spam - if your comments get lodged in there I cant help it. but have never deleted a decent comment ever, apart from those who go beyond decency or resort to personal attack - that said I do still reserve the right to decide whats acceptable and whats not

Well - This much I can say an ISP confirms that PIE NOC has issued this notification - KO reports that it was inaccessible a day earlier as well, it remains mostly accessible but it seems that PTCL has implemented it but others are mostly routing it around.

Why they did it? is as much of your guess as its mine. Could it be just a news distraction, as it makes no sense to attack a tech forum.

I too can access it from MaxCom - but we have a few traceroutes (one attached above) showing its blocked. Lets hope most of us stay in the clear

Amin - I assume you do not know that the ECP website went live with the electoral list in the starting of January. this list was the finalized list that came for voter registration back in October 2007. These lists appeared pasted across the wall of the city govt office practically unreadable and I know many who spent an entire day looking through the list and utterly confused - the attempt to find your name manually on the list is a task of its own. How difficult it would be to have all vote eligible citizens automatically registered from the NADRA database.

The reason it was not, was the fact that they merged the OLD list with the new list, taking out a number of name which they thought were duplicate. The reason for doing this was the BOGUS ID cards were on the OLD list and it was essential to have those merged into the master list.

It must also be remembered that the Election Commission received a tranche load of cash to improve the list from the US govt only to squander it on quickly merging the lists in 2007 (there was a suo moto case taken up as well in the Supreme court in this regard) more on this later
