It's tough finding enough sets of interesting books for the students to chose from. It's also hard getting the groups to have more in-depth conversations in their literature circles. &lt;br&gt;There's an excellent book titled, Mini-lessons for Literature Circles, by Harvey Daniels and Nancy Steineke, that's helped me. The book lays out things you need to do before you start literature circles, and offers a lot of good advice on setting up the circles. I can't say that I've had much success with literature circles. However, I keep trying. It's one of those things that takes a while to figure out how to do well. One possible way of looking at it is time. You'd have to do at least one practice run FIRST before committing. Also, there's always the option of a bike/bus/train combination. It would certainly be a daily adventure, which is a good thing. For me, the ideal bike commute is around 10 miles each way. It's nice to ride for one full hour twice a day. And of course, a lot depends on the route. Good luck!
