My omniten experience lacked that outdoor adventure element that the other seasons did. We didn't have much time to get to know each other before it turned into a competition. My flu didn't help. At the end of the week, tears filled my eyes as we all packed and departed Park City, sad at the lost opportunity. I knew I would not see many of the crew again, and I certainly knew I wasn't going to be making it to Jordan. But I am happy about what I actually did experience through the fog of the flu, and I am slowly re-meeting my omniten family, as they visit SoCal and visit my restaurant, and as I travel around the states. One of these days, we'll have to meet again. Cheers, Derek

Re: The Struggle I Choose

Sierra salve. I wish I had time a few weeks ago to bag some peaks, but 40 miles in 4 days was needed to deliver beer and tacos. That was enough for me without side trips to peaks. I had researched slogging it up from that side, as I had taken some tenderfoots to the lake and left them there while I was going to bag a peak. It ended up raining 11 hours that day. Needless to say, Cirque is still on my list and we got off the mountain that day, since all the campsites were rapidly become ponds.

Re: Eastern Sierra Over Memorial Day: Thor’s First Camping Trip!

Good for Thor! I just went on a weekend trip with my little guy and he didn't fare as well. He whined the whole drive, whined while I played with my daughter, had to be leashed since there was poison oak (can't be free of it here in Los Padres), got frightened of other off-leash dogs, and woke up barking every two hours during the night (and we slept in the car!). Perhaps if I take him somewhere more remote without poison oak, that would work better to wear him out.

Re: Plains and Peaks: Heading South for the Winter

Yup, I am on the edge of my seat!

and #TeamBeardEnvy
