Well that was insightful. As a middle-class/lower-class man of color, I can feel you.
On one hand, every time I hear/use the word "nigga" it makes part of me think how close I was to being that. Had my dad not married my mom after I was 10 I would have likely ended up just another broke "nigga".
Conversely, you could say that the constant usage of slurs and their adoption into the mainstream have taken some of the sting away. It's not the word "white trash", it's the usage. It's not the word, after all, it's the history. The memories that go along with them tend to make them powerful. As time ticks past, the word will inevitably have less and less impact. Otherwise we'd still be using "verily" or "forsooth" instead of "you know what I'm sayin'" or "totally".

Jman, you hit the nail on the head dude. We see it in Israel, now that they are no longer the oppressed they are doing the oppressing. We see it in Iraq, now that they are in power the minority is starting to oppress. We see it everywhere.
Unfortunately, I saw that shit at home too man. I think it's aggravated by how near segregated the Mitten is. There isn't much harmony there as a whole. Not compared to place like LA or NY

I find it amazing that when anonymous and without any real knowledge of whom their speaking to, people have so many cruel things to say. I am fortunate to count Jude amongst my friends. I am a person of color.

I think this is a balanced view, or perhaps slightly skewed noid. Let's not forget, however, that we've had a "cyber attack" from North Korea not even 6 months ago. This attack shut down web servers for some of our national organizations. Imagine what an organized country could do..

I'm not saying eff civil liberties, but we should have a plan at least. There's nothing wrong with a plan. Besides, we put the man in charge to change things for the better. Why don't we give it a chance to fail before we tear it down.

When people respond like that, it just shows you how insecure they are in themselves. Not to mention, look where she's from. That kind of response would be natural to being dissed crucially by a dude like that. It's more of a threat, an insult. It's like you pulled her hoe card (no pun intended). Not to say you were at fault, nor that I disagree. I'm simply saying it's the expected response.

I too was appalled by the behavior. It would be hypocritical, however for me to say that we don't see that here in our country. I'm truly saddened for the child.
